circumference 17 inches, 5 1/2 inches deep

This can be made larger or smaller by using a smaller or larger hook and smaller or larger weight yarn

Special stitch : Long Half Double Crochet LHDC:  YO hook ,insert hook in the skipped st  one row below the row that you are working on, draw up a loop, YO and draw through all 3 loops on hook 

Directions: 

ch 3, join with a sl st to form a ring

Round 1 -  ch 1, work 6 hdc in ring just formed, join with a sl st in first hdc 

Round 2 -  ch 1, hdc in each st around join with a sl st in first hdc  (12 hdc)

Round 3-  ch 1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st continue around  join with a sl st to 1st hdc(18 hdc)

Round 4-  repeat round 3  (27 hdc)

Round 5 -  ch 1, hdc in each st around, join with a sl st to 1st hdc (27)

Round 6 -  repeat round 3 (40)

Round 7 -  ch 1,* hdc in next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st * repeat from *to*  ending with 4 hdc, join with a sl st to 1st hdc (49)

Round 8 - ch 1,* hdc in next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st * repeat from *to*  ending with 2 hdc, join with a sl st to 1st hdc (61)

Round 9-13 -  repeat round 5

Round 14-15 - ch 3, * hdc in first st,  ch 1,  sk a st , hdc in next st, * continue from*to*   ch 3 counts as 1st hdc and ch 1 sp  join with a sl st to 1st hdc  (31 hdc 30 ch 1 sp)

Round 16 - *hdc in first st , LHDC in next st* continue from *to * join with a sl st to 1st hdc

Round 17 -18  - ch 1  hdc in first st,  ch 1,  sk a st , hdc in next st, * continue from*to*  join with a sl st to 1st hdc 

Round 19 -  repeat round 16 starting with a LHDC 

Round 20 - repeat round 17   Fasten off.   Roll up brim.
