Christmas Tree Hot Pad

Materials Needed:

J hook and  H hook,  1 skein of worsted weight green cotton yarn, small amount of red and 3 colors for balls, sewing needle

Direction:

tree is worked holding 2 strands of yarn held together

With J hook and Green yarn 

ch 25

hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining ch (24)

ch 1, dec hdc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 20 sts, dec hdc in last 2 sts (22)

ch 1, hdc in each st across (22)

ch 1, dec hdc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 18 sts, dec hdc in last 2 sts (20)

ch 1, hdc in each st across (20)

ch 1, dec hdc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 16 sts, dec hdc in last 2 sts (18)

ch 1, hdc in each st across (18)

ch 1, dec hdc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 14 sts, dec hdc in last 2 sts (16)

ch 1, hdc in each st across (16)

ch 1 dec hdc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 12 sts, dec hdc in last 2 sts (14)

ch 1 hdc in each st across (14)

ch 1 dec hdc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 10 sts, dec hdc in last 2 sts (12)

ch 1, hdc in each st across, (12)

ch 1, dec hdc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 8 sts, dec hdc in last 2 sts, (10)

ch 1, hdc in each st across (10)

ch 1, dec hdc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 6 sts, dec hdc in last 2 sts, (8)

ch 1, hdc in each st across (8)

ch 1, dec hdc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 4 sts, dec hdc in last 2 sts, (6)

ch 1, hdc in each st across (6)

ch 1, dec hdc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, dec hdc in last 2 sts, (4)

ch 1, hdc in each st across (4)

ch 1, (dec hdc in next 2 sts) twice  (2)

ch 1,  dec hdc in last 2 sts

ch 1, sc evenly around the entire triangle, working  2 sc in each corner.

Garland:

with H hook, attach red yarn in bottom right corner, ch 33, sl st in edging ( see picture for placement)  ch 27 sl st in edging, ch18 sl st in edging,  ch 11sl st in edging and fasten off.

Balls:

make 5 in colors of your choice

with H hook

Ch 5, join with a sl st in the first ch to form a ring.

Round 1: Ch 2,  work 16 dc in the ring

Round 2: Sl st in each of the 16 dc around, join with a sl st  to first sl st,  Fasten of leaving a length of yarn to sew with. 

Star:

With gold yarn make 1 of the following 

Round 1 - ch 5, join with a sl st to form a ring

Round 2 - ch 1, work 10 sc in ring just formed, join with a sl st to the first sc (this will be called inside ring)

Round 3 - *ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next 2 chs, (sl st in next sc on the inside ring) twice* repeat from *to* 5 times,  fasten off leaving a length of yarn to sew with.
