Ladies Cloche Hat

Materials Needed: H and J hook, 4 ozs of chunky weight yarn such as Lion Brand chunky, small amount of black worsted weight yarn

With J hook and chunky weight yarn

ch 2

Do not join rounds, use a stitch marker or piece of yarn to mark the beginning of each round

Round 1 - 8 scs in 2nd ch from hook

Round 2 - 2 scs in each st around, working only one sc in last st (15)

Round 3 -2 scs in 1st st, sc in next 2 sts, repeat around (20)

Round 4 -2 scs in 1st st, sc in next 3 sts, repeat around (25)

Round 5 -2 scs in 1st st, sc in next 4 sts, repeat around (30)

Round 6 -2 scs in 1st st, sc in next 5 sts, repeat around (35)

Round 7 -2 scs in 1st st, sc in next 6 sts, repeat around (40)

Round 8 -2 scs in 1st st, sc in next 7 sts, repeat around (45)

Round 9 -sc in each st around

Round 10 -2 scs in 1st st, sc in next 8 sts, repeat around (50)

Round 11 -sc in each st around

Round 12 -2 scs in 1st st, sc in next 9 sts, repeat around (55)

Round 13 -sc in each st around

Round 14 -2 scs in 1st st, sc in next 10sts, repeat around (60)

Round 15 -2scs in 1st st, sc in each remaining st around (61)

Round 16 - 17 -sc in each st around

??Round 18 - sc in next 6 sts, *2 scs in next st, 1 sc in next 11 sts, rep from * 3 more times, 2 scs in next st, sc in next 6 sts (66)

Round 19 - sc in each st around (66)

Round 21 - 2 scs in same st, *1 sc in next 12sts, 2 scs in nest st, rep from * 3 more times, 1 sc in next 14 sts (72)

Round 22 - 23 - sc in each st around (72)

Round 24 - sc in next 7 sts, * 2 scs in next st, 1 sc in next 13 sts, rep from * 3 more times, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in nest 8 sts (77)

Round 25 - 26 - sc inneach st around (77)

Round 27 - 2 sc in same st, *1 sc in next 14 sts, 2 sc in next st, rep from * 3 more times, 1 sc in next 17 sts, (83)

Round 28 - sc in each st around, join with a sl st to 1st sc (83)

Round 29 - ch 1, sc in eash st around, join with a sl st to 1st sc (83)

Working the brim:

The brim is worked in rows along the bottom edge of the hat,

ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 3 chs, sl st in next st on the hat round in the BACK LOOP ONLY, *turn work sc in next 4 sts on the brim in the FRONT LOOP ONLY, ch 1 turn, sc in next 4sts in the BACK LOOP ONLY, sl st in next st on the hat round twice, turn, work sc in next 4 sts on the brim in the FRONT LOOP ONLY, ch 1 turn, sc in next 4sts in the BACK LOOP ONLY, sl st in next st on the hat* repeat from *to * around the brim.

If the sequence of rows is off when you are at the end of completing the brim just finish it like it is. There are a few increases in the brim but if it doesn't come out correct it wont affect the look of the hat.

To close the brim just sl st the start row and the last row together and fasten off the yarn.

Finishing:

Using H hook and worsted weight yarn

Reverse single crochet in each free loop on the last row of the hat and the brim. If reverse single crochet gives you trouble you can just single crochet in each st around.
