Aran Sampler scarf with twisted fringe      

 

                                            

 

Materials Needed: K hook, about 14 ozs of worsted weight yarn

Special Stitches: 

FPDC-  YO, insert hook from front to back and to front again around the vertical post (upright part) of  st, YO and draw yarn through, YO and complete dc

BPDC-  YO, reaching over top of piece and working on opposite side (right side) of work, insert hook from right to left around vertical post of next st, YO and draw yarn through, YO and complete dc.

NOTE: make sure you work into the turning ch this will ensure that you have 27 sts through the pattern, you need to check your count often, the pattern will not be proper without 27 stitches.

Directions:

ch 29

Row 1 -  dc in 4th ch from hook and in each remaining ch , turn (27 dc including beg ch 3)

Row 2 - ch 1, skip 1st st, *dc in next st, sl st in next st, * repeat to the end ending with sl st in top of the turning ch, turn 

Row 3 - ch 3(counts as 1st dc), skip first st,  *dc in next dc, dc in next sl st* repeat to the end working last st in the turning ch

Row 4 - repeat row 2 

Row 5 - repeat row 3 

Row 6 - repeat row 2 

Row 7 - repeat row 3  

Row 8 - ch 3(counts as 1st dc) skip 1st st, * sc in next st, dc in next st* repeat across ending with a dc in the turning ch,  turn

Row 9 - ch 1, skip 1st st, * dc in next sc, sc in next dc* repeat across ending with sc in top of turning ch,  turn

Row 10 - repeat row 8 

Row 11- repeat row 9 

Row 12 - repeat row 8 

Row 13- repeat row 9 

Row 14 - repeat row 8 

Row 15 - ch 3 (counts as 1st dc) sk 1st st, dc in each st across, ch 3 turn (27 dcs)

Row 16 - ch 3, bpdc in next 2 sts, *fpdc in next 3 sts, bpdc in next 3 sts*  repeat 4 more times, turn

Row 17 - ch 3, fpdc in next 2 sts, bpdc in next 3 sts, fpdc in next 3 sts* repeat 4 more times, turn

Row 18 - ch 3, bpdc in next 2 sts, *fpdc in next 3 sts, bpdc in next 3 sts*  repeat 4 more times, turn

Row 19 - ch 3, bpdc in next 2 sts, *fpdc in next 3 sts, bpdc in next 3 sts*  repeat 4 more times, turn

Row 20 - ch 3, fpdc in next 2 sts, bpdc in next 3 sts, fpdc in next 3 sts* repeat 4 more times, turn

Row 21 - ch 3, bpdc in next 2 sts, *fpdc in next 3 sts, bpdc in next 3 sts*  repeat 4 more times, turn

Row 22 - ch 3, dc in each st across,  turn (27 total)

Row 23 - ch 2 ( counts as 1st hdc) sk 1st st, (sl st in next st, hdc in next st) repeat across, turn

Row 24 - ch 1, sk 1st st,  (hdc in next st, sl st in next st) repeat across ending with a sl st, turn

Row 25 - repeat row 23 

Row 26 - repeat row 24 

Row 27 - repeat row row 23

Row 28- repeat row 24

Row 29 - repeat row 23 

Row 30- 31  - ch 3, dc in each st across, turn (27 dcs, including beg ch 3)

Row 32 - ch 1, skip 1st st, *dc in next st, sl st in next st, * repeat to the end ending with last st in top of the turning ch, turn 

Row 33 - ch 3(counts as 1st dc), skip first st,  *dc in next dc, dc in next sl st* repeat to the end working last st in the turning ch

Row 53- 55  - ch 3, dc in each st across, turn (27 dcs, including beg ch 3)

Row 56-103-   repeat rows 32- 55,  2 more times

 Row 104- 126 -  repeat rows 32-54

Row 127- 132 -  repeat rows 16-21

Row 133- repeat rows 22

Row 134- 140 - repeat rows 8 -14

Row 141-  repeat row 15

Row 142- 147 -  repeat rows 2-7

Finishing:

sc evenly around the entire scarf. 

Fringe: See Below for illustrations

Twisted Fringe Edge: Working into the stitches that you just completed on the short end of the scarf, sl st in first st, ch 1, *pull up a loop 12" long, turn your hook 18 times, sl st into next st letting the loop just formed fold in half and twist around itself, ch 1 * repeat across, Finish off.

With right side facing, attach yarn at opposite end and repeat fringe.  Fasten off and Enjoy!!!
